Reports and exports from the Incentives screen

The three kinds of output

The Incentives screen produces three different kinds of output, and they behave differently. The button label does not tell you which is which, so this is the rule:

Only Create report on the Programs tab reaches your account's report history. If you generated something from Compare, Companies, Megadeals or Explorer and then went looking for it under Reports, it was never saved — see Print-only reports for what to do instead.

Create report: the saved Incentive Landscape report

On the Programs tab, Create report builds an Incentive Landscape report for the selected jurisdiction. This is the same report type you can run from the Reports screen, so it behaves like every other saved report: a row appears in Recent reports as soon as it is generated, and Download Report saves a PDF that is then linked from that row.

Scope

There are two Create report buttons and they scope differently:

• The button at the top of the Programs Offered card reports on the whole jurisdiction.
• Once you have an industry chip or a category group active, a second button appears inside the filtered list, labelled with the scope it will use — Create report · Manufacturing segment (15), Create report · Cash Grant programs (9), or Create report · Manufacturing · Cash Grant (4). That scope is carried into the report's subtitle and into its history name, which reads <State> — Incentive Landscape · <scope>.

When the button is disabled

Hovering the disabled button tells you why:

• Select a jurisdiction first — nothing is picked yet.
• Reports aren't available for the District of Columbia yet — DC is in the program catalog, but outside the report pool.
• No verified programs for X yet — the report needs verified coverage — the jurisdiction's coverage tier is none, so there is nothing to report on.

The report replaces the tabbed view while it is open; Back returns you to the Programs tab with your jurisdiction still selected.

Print-only reports

Four buttons open a formatted report on screen and nothing more. Their Download Report button opens your browser's own print dialog, where you can print or "Save as PDF" yourself. No row is written to Recent reports, no PDF is stored, and there is no way to reopen one later — you rebuild it from the tab it came from.

What each one contains:

• State Incentive Benchmarking — Side-by-Side Comparison, What the Data Says, and Category Mix by State, for the two to four states you added on Compare.
• Incentive Deal Comps — Summary KPIs, What the Data Says, Geographic Footprint (top 12 states), Incentive Category Mix, and Largest Individual Awards for the parent company you opened.
• Megadeals Briefing — Megadeals, Combined Value, Top State and Year Span KPIs, Concentration by State (top 12), and the largest deals (up to 30), with a line telling you how many of the matching megadeals are shown.
• <State> — Incentive Landscape (Explorer) — the state's ICS and Total Tracked, Score Components with their weights, Incentive Category Mix, Award Tier Distribution, and Top Megadeals (up to 12).

Industries: CSV and XLSX

The Industries tab is the only place on this screen that downloads a spreadsheet. Two buttons sit beside the breadcrumb:

• Export current view as CSV — exactly the level and pivot you are looking at, as one table.
• Export all levels as XLSX — a workbook with a Read me sheet followed by one sheet per level of your drill trail, from the sector down to where you are now.

Both honour the Years range set on the tab, and both name that range in the file name.

File names

• CSV: naics-<code>_<key>_incentive-type_<from>-<to>.csv
• XLSX: <rootKey>_incentives_by-industry-and-type_<from>-<to>.xlsx

Columns

Every table has the same frame, so files from different levels stack:

1. A code column and a name column — Subsector code / Subsector, State code / State, and so on, named for the level.
2. The 14 incentive-type columns, always all 14, always in the same order, zero-filled where a type has no value.
3. Row total and Row %.
4. On the By state view only, a 19th column: Capped source, Y for a state drawing on a capped source extract and blank otherwise.

Each CSV opens with two # comment lines naming the dataset (Incenti Subsidy Intelligence) and the node, level and year range it covers. Below the data rows sit a Not classified beyond … remainder row and a TOTAL row; the 14 types sum to each row's total, and the rows sum to the TOTAL, exactly.

The By state export lists the top 10 states plus an All other states row — it is not a full 51-row table.

The Read me sheet

The XLSX opens on a Read me sheet that states the source, the industry scheme (NAICS 2022), the year range, what each sheet contains, how to read the "Not classified beyond …" row, how the figures reconcile, and what a Y in Capped source means. Every data sheet after it is named like 1. 2d 31-33 and freezes its header row.

What you cannot export

• Award records. Explorer shows up to 500 rows at a time and has no export; State Report is a summary, not a record dump.
• The Megadeals board. Export Report prints a briefing; the table itself doesn't download.
• Compare and Companies tables. Print-only, as above.
• The Overview, Map and state profile. No export of any kind.
• The Programs Offered list. It reaches a file only through Create report → Download Report.

Common questions

Q: I clicked Export Report on the Compare tab but it never showed up under Reports. Where did it go? A: Nowhere — that button opens a printable report on screen and does not save anything. Only Create report on the Programs tab writes a row to Recent reports. Use Download Report on the printed view to print or save a PDF yourself before you navigate away, because the report cannot be reopened later.

Q: Why did Download Report open my browser's print dialog instead of saving a PDF? A: On the Compare, Companies, Megadeals and Explorer reports that is the intended behaviour — they are print-only. Choose "Save as PDF" as the destination in the print dialog if you want a file. On a saved report (Create report, or anything launched from Reports), the same button generates and stores a real PDF instead.

Q: How do I get the incentive award data as a spreadsheet? A: Through the Industries tab. Export current view as CSV gives you the level you're on; Export all levels as XLSX gives you the whole drill trail with a Read me sheet. The Explorer, Megadeals, Compare and Companies tabs have no spreadsheet export.

Q: What does "Capped source = Y" mean in my export? A: That state's rows come from a source extract capped at 10,000 records per state, so its award set is likely incomplete and its counts aren't comparable with an uncapped state's. The XLSX Read me sheet says the same thing. See How Incentive Intelligence figures are computed.

Q: Why can't I create an Incentive Landscape report for the District of Columbia? A: DC is catalogued in Programs Offered but is not yet part of the report pool, so the Create report button stays disabled with the tooltip "Reports aren't available for the District of Columbia yet". You can still read and filter its program list on the Programs tab.

Q: My export only has 10 states in it. Where are the rest? A: The By state view exports the ten largest states by value plus an All other states row that carries everything else, so the totals still reconcile. Drill into a specific state on another tab if you need its detail.
