Autofill a response

Before you start

• Autofill is available on a response's detail page only when your account is the respondent — a response your account submitted to another organization's form (the Submitted tab), or a response you created by uploading a document. It does not appear on responses submitted to your own forms.
• Autofill only fills fields that are currently empty. It never overwrites an answer that's already there, whether you typed it or a previous autofill filled it.
• If your account has the properties module, a property linked to the response can be used as a fill source. Accounts without the properties module can still autofill from their profile and organization details.

Steps

Start autofill

Open the response and click Autofill with AI in the action bar, next to the AI Chat button. This opens the AI Assistant panel and starts the autofill run automatically. You can also open the drawer with AI Chat first and click the Autofill this response quick action shown in the empty chat.

Autofill runs in two stages, both inside the same chat conversation.

Choose a property, if asked

If the form has fields that map to property details, and the response has more than one property linked, or none, a card appears in the chat asking you to choose a property. Search by name, city, or state, select a result, and the card shows how many of the form's fillable fields that property can fill. Click Confirm to use it, or Continue without a property to skip and fill only from your profile and organization instead.

If exactly one property is already linked to the response, this step is skipped and that property is used automatically.

Review the deterministic fills

The first stage fills answers directly and exactly from your own records — the selected property (when applicable), your user profile and addresses, and your account and its addresses. These fills appear in the chat's confirmation card under From your records.

Review the AI-suggested fills

The second stage has the AI propose answers for whatever fields are still empty. These appear in the same confirmation card under AI-suggested, each with a short reason. Nothing is written yet — proposals only take effect after you click Confirm changes. If the response is already past submission, the card shows a warning before you confirm.

Click Confirm changes to apply both groups together, or Reject to discard the proposal without changing anything.

See where an answer came from

After autofill has filled at least one answer, a Show sources toggle appears above the Response section (only outside of edit mode). Turn it on to show a small chip under each filled answer's label — naming the property, your profile, your organization, or the AI-cited record it came from. An unverified AI suggestion shows as a plain AI-suggested chip instead.

Change a source

With sources shown, an answer that has an identifiable source shows a Change source… link next to its chip. Click it to reopen the AI chat with a prompt already filled in asking to update that answer from a different source. From there, follow the usual review-and-confirm flow again.

What happens next

• Confirming autofilled answers saves them to the response immediately, the same as any other AI-proposed update.
• For a response created from an uploaded document, confirming fills also regenerates the filled copy of the document in the background; download the refreshed version from Export.
• If the form scores responses, confirming changes queues re-scoring, and the updated score appears once it finishes.
• Choosing a property in the picker links it to the response (or changes which linked property is used for autofill), so later autofill or "Change source…" runs use the same choice unless you pick differently.

Common questions

Q: Will autofill overwrite answers I already filled in? A: No. Autofill only fills fields that are currently empty. Any answer you've already entered, or that a previous autofill run already filled, is left exactly as it is.

Q: I don't see an Autofill with AI button on this response — why? A: The button only appears when your account is the respondent on this response — either it's on your Submitted tab, or it's a response you created from an uploaded document. On a response submitted to one of your own forms, only AI Chat appears, since your account isn't the one answering it.

Q: Why is it asking me to pick a property instead of just using one? A: It asks when the form has fields that pull from property details and either no property is linked to the response yet, or more than one is. If exactly one property is already linked, autofill uses it automatically without asking.

Q: Can I use autofill if my account doesn't have the properties module? A: Yes. Property-related fields simply won't be filled from a property; autofill still fills what it can from your profile and your organization's details, and the AI stage can still propose answers for the rest.
